Become a team member for Blue Racing team in season 2022-2023 and help us build a new battery electric vehicle for the Shell Eco Marathon! This page is dedicated to laying out the roles needed for a well rounded team. If you see yourself filling one or more of the roles, contact us for more information on how and when to apply.

Project manager
You are a calm and organised person, capable of overseeing multiple ongoing projects at one time. You are the main contact for team members and school faculty members. You will need to keep a birdseye view of the project and set and keep deadlines, as well as overseeing the registration process for the Shell Eco Marathon. You are proficient in English and Dutch, this is crucial as you are the face of the Blue Racing Team at events and during the Shell Eco Marathon.
Your tasks are:

  • Making and overseeing the planning
  • Overseeing the registration process
  • Planning and leading progress meetings
  • Main contact point for school staff
  • Planning and organizing tests
  • Contacting sponsors

PR & Finance manager

You are outgoing and friendly, adept in professional contact with potential sponsors. You don’t mind organising an event for our sponsors. Some of your time will be dedicated to sharing our progress on social media and updating our website. Next to adding to our budget, you will also be tasked with budget management, which requires precision and attention to detail.

Your tasks are:

  • Managing social media and website
  • Raising brand awareness for students and external parties
  • Documenting progress
  • Event management
  • Contacting new sponsors and maintaining external relations
  • Budget management / accounting

Chief mechanical engineer

You are driven and not afraid to take responsibility. You are not afraid to make a decision, and when problems arise you come up with a solution, not forgetting to consult your team members in the process. The project manager will come to you for all planning related questions, and you are responsible for reaching deadlines set by them. Your job is also to ensure regular and friendly contact with workshop instructors, as it is paramount that team members can work with the available machines and tools.

  • Responsible for planning of mechanical engineering

Chief electrical engineer

You are driven and not afraid to take responsibility. You are not afraid to make a decision, and when problems arise you come up with a solution, not forgetting to consult your team members in the process. The project manager will come to you for all planning related questions, and you are responsible for reaching deadlines set by them. Your job is also to ensure regular and friendly contact with faculty instructors, as it is paramount that team members have access to parts and equipment.

  • Responsible for planning of electrical engineering
  • Overseeing of projects and decision making
  • Responsible for cleanliness in the workshop
  • Contact with Electrical Engineering faculty instructors

Mechanical Engineer

You are dedicated and practical. Your tasks are mainly comprised of designing and creating a system as a part of a vehicle. Some neccessary systems are mentioned below and will be divided between all mechanical engineers, keeping in mind experience and available time. You will be working with other team members to ensure that your system fits within the boundaries of, and connects seamlessly with, all other systems in the vehicle. Some mechanical systems that need to be in a Shell Eco Marathon vehicle are:

  • Hull and frame or monocoque
  • Steering system
  • Wheels
  • Brakes
  • Seating and safety
  • Hinges and locking mechanisms
  • Steering wheel

Electrical Engineer

You are dedicated and practical. Your tasks are mainly comprised of designing and creating a system as a part of a vehicle. Some neccessary systems are mentioned below and will be divided between all electrical engineers, keeping in mind experience and available time. You will be working with other team members to ensure that your system fits within the boundaries of, and connects seamlessly with, all other systems in the vehicle. Some electrical systems that need to be in a Shell Eco Marathon vehicle are:

  • Battery
  • Battery Management System
  • Telemetrics
  • CAN-data transfer
  • Lighting
  • Cable management and safety
  • Motorcontrollers
  • Steering wheel
